Experimented with the SLS Short Answer Feedback Assistant (ShortAnsFA) for marking Geography structured questions. Documenting the process and my reflections here!
What I did:
Created a teacher-marked quiz (TMQ) using existing formative questions that students typically attempt on a hardcopy worksheet. [Step-by-step tutorial: link]
Revised my 'prompts' to the ShortAnsFA after looking at the feedback generated from trial responses.

Reflections:
✅ I followed the tips given in the tutorial video (adding question tags and setting the leniency to low) and the feedback given by the ShortAnsFA was relatively accurate.
✅ The qualitative comments were also helpful in helping students get a better understanding of what they have overlooked in their responses. The specificity and depth of the feedback, typically impractical for teachers to produce due to time constraints, offered detailed and personalised insights.
✅ Enabling the timed-quiz feature, with auto-submit upon time expiration, spared me from having to remind forgetful students to turn in their work. More importantly, SLS also provided a record of how long each student took to complete the quiz.
From this data, I can gauge the level of effort (spending 5 minutes on a 25-minute quiz would signal low effort).
Issues such as time-management can also be surfaced (if students spend too long to complete the quiz), and teachers can provide timely intervention before tests/exams.
❓I wonder if it's possible to generate a PDF copy of the complete assignment [encompassing the questions, students' responses, suggested answers, and teacher's comments]? This would serve as physical documentation of students' work, stored within their Geography file, and facilitate ease of revision.
